Dr. Phil Fernandes - High School Bible & PE
Senior Pastor, Trinity Bible Fellowship

In addition to my Crosspoint teaching duties (Bible, philosophy, and weightlifting), I am the senior pastor of Trinity Bible Fellowship and the president of the Institute of Biblical Defense (a Christian apologetics ministry). I have completed doctoral work in philosophy of religion (Greenwich University) and I'm currently doing further doctoral work in apologetics (Southern Evangelical Seminary). I have also earned a Master of Arts degree in Religion at Liberty University. I have publicly debated atheists and other non-Christian thinkers at schools throughout America such as Princeton, Washington State University, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. I have authored or co-authored ten books dealing with the defense of the Christian faith.

The grandson of Portuguese and Italian immigrants, I am originally from Essex County, New Jersey. In 1980, at the age of twenty, I left New Jersey and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and honorably served for three years. After that, I worked for ten years with the Sub Base Bangor Police Department. I married Cathy Garcia in 1984; we have two grown daughters and three grandsons. Too old to box, I now enjoy weightlifting and I still compete in the bench press. I also coach the Crosspoint weightlifting club. Our lifters have won world, North American, and Washington state championships in the bench press and deadlift. My favorite verse is Isaiah 40:8: "The grass withers and the flower fades; but, the Word of our God lasts forever." My favorite quote is from Blaise Pascal: ". . . there are only two classes of persons who can be called reasonable: those who serve God with all their heart because they know him and those who seek God with all their heart because they do not know him."
